CALLING CONNECTICUT'S EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN
-Westfarms and the CT Department of Labor Seek Public Nominations for 3rd Annual "Connecticut Working Woman of the Year" Award -
FARMINGTON, Conn., March 21, 2007 - To appreciate the many woman of our state who make our lives better with their daily efforts, Westfarms and the Connecticut Department of Labor are paying tribute to one special woman as Connecticut's Working Woman of the Year. Accepting public nominations throughout April, Westfarms and its partners want to celebrate women who raise families, pursue higher education, excel in their careers, overcome adversity, help those less fortunate and more.
Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the award:
* A woman 18+
* A current full-time Connecticut resident
* A woman who works - in any capacity
* A woman who demonstrates outstanding achievement and/or has overcome adversity
* Available on May 11 for news conference announcement (will be notified by May 7)
Timing for submitting nominations is April 1, 2007 - April 30, 2007.
The Advisory Panel, who will select this year's winner includes notables such as former winners Stephanie Haines and Rosalind Best; Carol Hamilton, president of L'Oreal Paris; Allison Demers, WRCH-FM host; Linda Agnew, deputy commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Labor and Wendy Haggerty, marketing director, Westfarms.
"Many women in our lives serve as an ongoing inspiration for all they do but rarely receive recognition," said Wendy Haggerty, marketing director for Westfarms. "We're looking for those extraordinary women who are everything to everybody and acknowledge her for the impact she's made. Our former winners have been truly outstanding and have set the bar really high. We're looking forward to seeing what this year brings."
"This award gives us the opportunity to hear some amazing stories from the state's leading working women," said Linda Agnew, deputy commissioner, Connecticut Department of Labor. "We are honored to be part of this program for the third year."
The award recipient will receive a round-trip vacation for two, $500 Westfarms shopping spree, L'Oreal Paris gift package and more. In addition, she will be recognized at a news conference on Friday, May 11, the official kick-off to Westfarms Working Women's Weekend, a free event celebrating women presented by L'Oreal Paris on May 12 and 13. The weekend will consist of free massages, mini-makeovers, fashion advice, meet Kyan Douglas of TV's "Queer Eye," giveaways and more!
